In dir listings the similar names mean they will be clustered together in most apps. Trip to Venice - Day 03 - Underwater Photos (if you'd like to split the albums even further).Trip to Venice - Day 03 (if you'd like to split the albums by day).Trip to Venice - Scanned Materials (leaflets, tourist maps, foreign currency, etc, things you want to keep for sentimental reasons but are no longer useful in physical form).2019-03 Around the house (day isn't specified to allow for a longer period of time, also gets sorted before individual "day" albums).
Keeping the sort-by-character philosophy of ISO 8601 creates an easy to remember workaround for nested folders - want to split the album by some theme - no problem, create albums named like: US format, European format? No confusion here. it is human readable and also script-readable and completely unambiguous.helps me stick to one format and so prevents a mess in the future.Future-proof too in case I ever switch to another service.
Oh wait, I just tried to download the photos and it will only let me do 500 at a time. There isnt a single feature in Photos that I can think of that would entice me to NOT take this route. Seeing as Photos is too incompetent to have any legitimate organization tools the easiest route would then be to just download all my images off of Google Photos and then upload them to my Drive where I can then properly organize them. The more that I think about it, I think the best solution may be to just use Google Drive. How is it that a company this large has made a product without the seemingly common sense necessity of a folder/album hierarchy?Īre there any add-ons, services, or platforms that I can either use or migrate to? I cant find anything, but I also cant organize anything. So, basically I am left with this massive cascade of unorganized photos and unorganized albums. Some of my images dont have locations on them either. None of my pictures have names, and Google has done an even worse job of organizing them itself. I get I can search, but I that doesnt help at all. Im left going back to look, and then losing my place and starting over. So I get halfway through the thousands of pictures and cant quite remember if I noticed this one important photo or whether or not I added it to the corresponding album. But I cant.įrom there, when I look through all my photos it doesnt tell me what is in what album. If I could put albums inside albums I would be able to seperate photos of my house by, say, room or something.
Both taken in the same location, but entirely different and not needed to be together. But it does not help when I want to group together, say photos of my girlfriend and I at home and photos of my home itself. I understand there are capabilities to search or organize by location which would help in this sense. Photos of the Big Island in one grouping, while my photos of Maui in another. For example, I lived in Hawaii for a bit and would ideally like to group my photos of each visit of each island together. When I do create albums, I cant create further defined albums. I want to create some sort of organization, but its entirely impossible. I have all my photos in Google Photos and love mot Google services, but this has to be one of Googles worst services I have ever experienced. It has been a number of years since I have organized them and I would really like to if at all possible. I dont really take pictures, let alone take the time to specifically rename each photo or even go through my accrued photos.
The Settings tab is also where you can upgrade your storage to another plan.I am not a huge picture person. Finally, you can configure Google Drive to automatically launch when you log in to your Mac, show file sync status, and display confirmation messages when removing shared items from Google Drive.
Once disconnected, the files within your Mac's Google Drive folder remain on your Mac but are no longer synced with the online data in Google's cloud.
The default is to have everything in the folder automatically synced, but if you prefer, you can specify only certain folders to be synced.
